Waitrose Weekend

Waitrose Weekend is one of the most successful brand newspapers in the UK. Launched in March 2010 as the first free newspaper published by a retailer, it has a weekly print run of 350,000 copies and is available in Waitrose’s 286 branches.

To coincide with the 2018 rebrand of Waitrose and John Lewis, Studio Brannan was commissioned to undertake a full, top-to-bottom newspaper redesign to reposition the publication for a premium brand.

Working with John Brown Media and the in-house editorial and brand teams we developed an elegant and modern design, elevating the standing of the newspaper to match the aspirations and brand values of the company.

The approach

We showcased beautiful photography and introduced infographics to raise the engagement of a wide and discerning audience. Clear signposting, section openers and a new colour palette improved the navigation and readability of the content.

A full set of robust templates and guides was supplied to the in-house team who produce the publication every week.
